List of foes to be recommended for a peerage by Lord Russell: James Sinclair, 14th Earl of Caithness; Sir William Meredyth Somerville, 1st Baron Athlumey (after Baron Meredyth) and Baron Thomas Clermont. The Irish elected peers all named by Lord Derby. No chance of any such favourable to the present Government reaching the House of Lords, save by Queen Victoria's creation. Sudden death of the ex-Queen of the French (Marie-Amelie).
