Description
Letter from the Duke of Beaufort (Henry Charles Fitzroy Somerset, 8th Duke of Beaufort), declining the office of Master of the Horse, submitted by Lord Derby (not included). His acceptance previously given in ignorance of the new regulations for the Department (see VIC/MAIN/C/32/90). Lord Derby's suggestion for reconsideration of the regulations, in view of the Duke of Beaufort's preeminent fitness for the post and the difficulty of finding anyone else to undertake it under the proposed conditions.
