Description
Record of Benjamin Disraeli's audience with Queen Victoria regarding the position of the Conservative Party and his own relations to it. Decision in favour of its being kept together and of his continuing to lead it. Considerations governing rank given to ministers, or the Speaker, on elevation to the House of Lords. Precedent of Sir C. Wood cited. Mr Disraeli on the creation of Baroness Hester Chatham (wife of William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham) as a baroness in her own right and John Campbell, 1st Baron Campbell's wife's peerage (Baroness of Stratheden) - cited in support of his request for a similar honour for his own wife.
