Description
Note by Colonel Ponsonby for Queen Victoria's conversation with Mr Gladstone, regarding changes to be proposed to the Brigade of Guards and a reduction in Army Establishment. Colonel Ponsonby on the expected attack on the Lord Chancellor for promoting Sir R.P. Collier to a judgeship for one day (in the Court of Common Pleas) and thence to be a judge in the Court of Appeal (Judicial Committee of the Privy Council). Opposition of critics of the Washington Treaty encouraged by 'absurdly high claims' for compensation in the Alabama case (United States of America). General Ponsonby on the possibility of Trinity College, Dublin (Ireland) being opened to all religious faiths.
