Description
Sir T. Biddulph on Mr Gladstone's proposals for Government reconstruction. The difficulty of keeping the Government together in the event of Queen Victoria's objections to them. Mr Gladstone's proposal to take the office of Chancellor of the Exchequer. Right Honourable George Canning cited as a precedent in support. Right Honourable Hugh Childers' desire to retire from the Chancellorship of the Duchy of Lancaster. Proposed arrangement as to announcement. John Bright recommended as Chancellor of the Duchy Lancaster. Right Honourable Henry Austin (after 1st Baron Aberdare) proposed for a Peerage and the office of Lord President of the Council.
