Government reconstruction: Mr Gladstone's desire not to disturb the War Office or Admiralty. Prospective arrangements made for the resignation of Mr Monsell, the Post Master General. Proposed appointments to the Treasury: Mr John G.Dodson (after 1st Baron Monk-Bretton) recommended as Financial Secretary, on the retirement of Mr William E. Baxter; Mr Arthur Peel as Parliamentary Secretary, in succession to Lord Wolverton; Lord Frederick Cavendish as second to Mr John Dodson (after 1st Baron Monk-Bretton), and the Honourable Algernon William Fulke Greville as Junior Lord.
